Summer Workouts Begin Next Monday

STILLWATER - In what has seemingly been the longest break between the spring semester and the start of summer school and the summer conditioning program under the direction of Rob Glass, the Oklahoma State football squad will report back to campus throughout the rest of this week and into the weekend before classes and workouts commence on Monday.

These are involuntary workouts but any team that has goals and desires of winning a conference title like the Big 12 championship and competing for a BCS bowl invite and a national championship there is virtually full participation. You don't have to push players any more in the summer. They know if they want to reach full potential that they need to be there.

All of the returning varsity players are expected back in Stillwater. For those already perusing preseason football magazines, ignore the talk of a transfer defensive back becoming eligible in former Arkansas cornerback David Gordon. Gordon is listed in several publications as coming eligible this season in Stillwater but he quit the team before the end of the season last fall.

Three players are expected to be sitting out summer workouts while working to rehab injuries -- safety Lavocheya Cooper (knee), safety Markelle Martin (shoulder), and wide receiver Michael Harrison (foot). All are expected to be ready for the 2011 season.

As for newcomers, the three freshmen and three junior college transfers who enrolled in January are set to return with the varsity. Those players are freshmen quarterback J.W. Walsh, offensive guard Travis Cross, and linebacker Kris Catlin, and junior college transfers Michael Bowie (offensive tackle), Maurice Hayes (defensive tackle) and Ryan Robinson (defensive end).

Now for the information that everybody has been asking about. We have checked and here is the list of newcomers that will report early for summer school and summer workouts.
