Johnson Says OSU Offer Changes Everything

One of the top defensive end prospects in Texas is Taiwan Johnson out of Manvel. Now how do we know Johnson is one of the best defensive end prospects in Texas? Well scholarship offers from 21 schools will clue anybody in pretty good.

Taiwan Johnson, who says he also goes by T.J., has been offered by Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Boise State, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas State, Louisville, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Northwestern, Purdue, Rice, Texas-San Antonio, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Washington State, and West Virginia.

Now, as of Thursday, you can add two more in SMU and Oklahoma State.

"Yes sir, Oklahoma State offered me this morning," said Johnson. "I'm excited about that one. I just recently named my top five schools. They are really my five favorites in recruiting so far but they are subject to change.

"This Oklahoma State offer changes everything and now I have to move on to the next phase of my recruiting and see how Oklahoma State fits me. But I think they are going to be one of my top schools."

The 6-3, 230-pound Johnson had 65 total tackles last season and seven sacks and is looking to bump those numbers up considerably this upcoming season.

He did reveal his five schools and they are Arizona, Arizona State, Rice, Nebraska, and Arkansas.

Rice? And offers from Northwestern, Vanderbilt, and Wake Forest must mean he is squared away academically.

"Yes sir, my grades are good," Johnson said. "I want to major in Psychology. I am taking the SAT this Saturday."

Johnson does not play any other sports and has good speed at 4.8. He said he will focus this summer on getting stronger and better conditioned. He will also try to make it up to check out Oklahoma State as well as some of the other schools that have offered him.

"Spring football, we did not get in pads," explained Johnson. "We were in shorts so we will get an extra week of two-a-days in August and start early. It worked well for us last season."

Johnson is a sharp young man and obviously a very good player. Twenty-one schools couldn't be wrong about that.
