Taiwan Johnson Trims List To 12

Last month when Oklahoma State offered defensive end Taiwan Johnson of Manvel, Texas, he said that changed everything as far as he was concerned. It really has and has kind of forced the highly coveted prospect to go from a list of five favorites out of the more than 20 Division I schools that have offered him a scholarship to trimming his list down to 12 schools.

Johnson had told us on the day that the Cowboys offered him that he had come up with a list of five favorites. Those schools were Arizona, Arizona State, Rice, Nebraska and Arkansas. All of those schools made the lastest cut but there are seven others including the Cowboys.

He sent us a text Thursday evening with his complete list.

"Hey sir, I've made my first cuts down to 12 schools," Johnson text. "There's no order in these schools - Arizona, Arizona State, Rice, Arkansas, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, West Virginia, Boise State, Ole Miss, Northwestern, SMU, and Missouri."

The reasonable expectation is that Johnson will narrow that list in the fall to the five schools that he will make his official visits to. He could include Rice and skip the official visit as Rice is close by. All of the others are at least a little ways away and some are a considerable distance.

The 6-3, 230-pound Johnson had 65 total tackles last season and seven sacks and is expected to put those numbers to shame this upcoming season as in the last year he has gained strength and improved his speed too.
