Q&A with Jeremy Smith

Jeremy Smith finished second on the team with seven rushing touchdowns last season as a redshirt freshman and thrived in short-yardage situations for the Cowboys. Smith will be looked upon to fill the void left by Kendall Hunter in the OSU backfield. Smith took the time on Saturday to participate in a Q&A session with Go Pokes.

Are you excited to be back out on the field getting ready for the season?

"Oh yea, I've been waiting for this for a long, long time. It's fun to be back. I'm excited for the season and ready to get after it."

Obviously the loss of Kendall Hunter is a big one, how ready are you and Joseph Randle to step into the primary roles in the backfield?

"Fans are going to see a lot this year. We both bring a lot to the table and I think people are going to get pretty excited about what we have in store for them. We plan on helping this offense run a lot so I think it's something for fans to get excited about; we're ready for it 100 percent."

How similar is what Todd Monken is doing with the offense to what Dana Holgorsen ran last season?

"They're two different coaches so they each put their own little flavor into it. I think with coach Todd we are getting a little bit more running so that's something I'm excited about."

What do you think of the new uniforms?

"Oh I love them, I can't wait to see the rest of them. I love the black ones. When I saw them for the first time I was just like, ‘wow.' I just stared at them. They definitely put a smile on my face."

How much do you think the different styles of running you and Joseph Randle bring to the table will benefit the offense with your power style and Randle's versatility as a receiver out of the backfield?

"It's definitely going to help us out. Joe is a great receiver and also a great runner and I like running between the tackles and in goal line situations. We are both pretty well-rounded backs but I think the fact that we have different strengths is definitely a plus and the coaches are doing a good job putting us in a position to succeed in those roles."

How much do you enjoy running behind one of the nation's premier offensive lines?

"Oh my gosh, they're too deep and too good an offensive line. The first team, the second team and even the third are really good. The first team is a veteran group and they absolutely deserve the recognition they're getting. I'm pretty fortunate to have those guys in front of me."
