Brooks Says Commitment is 95 percent

Daniel Brooks is a multi-talented standout for Port LaVaca (Calhoun), Texas and showed it again last week in a three-way scrimmage involving Houston schools North Brook and Jefferson Davis. Brooks scored four touchdowns in the scrimmage and three of those were on runs of 40-yards or more.

Of course, last season Brooks earned All State honors by rushing for 1,682-yards on 199 carries with 21 touchdowns. Brooks is excited this week and Calhoun High School opens up the regular season with powerhouse Corpus Christi Calallen High School.

Brooks (5-10, 170) actually committed to Oklahoma back in March, and when asked about the status of that commitment, which is listed by some sources as soft, Brooks made it sound more solid.

"That is being said (the commitment is soft) because I'm planning on going to games and I want to get out and enjoy the recruiting process. Right now I'm not taking any official visits," said Brooks. "My family just made the move to Port LaVaca and I need to concentrate on that move, school, and the season.

"I would say I am 95 percent to Oklahoma and just five percent to those other schools," Brooks continued. "Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Texas, California, New Mexico, and UTEP are those other schools. OU has treated me and my family really well and their promises were convincing about what they would do for me and how I would fit into their program."

Brooks said he would let us know if anything changed. He does plan on checking out other games this season and he does want to experience at least a part of what recruiting feels like.
