Cowboys Run Away To Dominate Bedlam

A few blocks west of Gallagher-Iba this evening the Oklahoma State football team will hold their annual Senior Football Banquet and they will celebrate a regular season capped off with last Saturday's 44-10 Bedlam win over Oklahoma. That Bedlam win is common place for Cowboy wrestling

But new Sooners coach Mark Cody, a former OSU assistant had, has Cowboys coach John Smith saying OU is wrestling well and with purpose.

The two schools split the first four matches and were tied at 6-6. Oklahoma State 184-pound Chris Perry scored a 7-1 decision to put Oklahoma State up 9-6 and then the Cowboys put the normal hurt on Oklahoma.

George Mason transfer Cayle Byers stepped up and scored a third period fall in a match he dominated to put Oklahoma State up 15-6. Heavyweight Alan Gelogaev thought he had a first period fall only to back off and realize the match was still going. Gelogaev finished with a 15-2 major decision. Oklahoma State's top ranked and defending NCAA champion at 133 pounds, Jordan Oliver put the lights out with a first period fall and the second-ranked Cowboys went on to win 25-13 over their rival.

Smith was disappointed with losses at 141 pounds where sixth-ranked Kendric Maple decisioned sixth-ranked Josh Kindig. Smith was really dumbfounded with the effort, or lack of, from Dallas Bailey at 165 pounds to OU's Bubby Graham. Smith said patience is required at 157 pounds where ninth-ranked and oft-injured Albert White lost a decision to 11th-ranked Matt Lester.

Oklahoma State remains unbeaten in their dual schedule at 3-0 and will next wrestle on Dec. 18 in Reno at the Tournament of Champions.
