It provided further proof that OSU is a special place and it was a class act for the Cowboy football team to make that gesture.
Both Oklahoma State and Stanford had honorary captains for the coin toss prior to kickoff at the Fiesta Bowl. If you like golf, that was a fun moment when Stanford trotted out Tiger Woods and OSU went with Rickie Fowler.
Both golfers are on the cover of the next installment of the Tiger Woods PGA video game series with EA Sports. Fowler won the toss, OSU won the game, now maybe Fowler can get the best of Woods out on the course.
Into the record books
In addition to being on of the better installments in Fiesta Bowl history, the teams worked their way into the record books as well.
Justin Blackmon's three touchdowns tied the record. Kansas State's Darnell McDonald had three against Syracuse in 1998 and Florida State's Rhett Dawson had three against Arizona State in 1971.
Also, with Brandon Weeden's 399 yards and Andrew Luck's 347, it marked the first time in Fiesta Bowl history both quarterbacks exceeded the 300-yard mark.
Weeden records first rushing touchdown
Honestly, was there any question about that? A great play call from Todd Monken when Weeden scrambled two yards on a designed quarterback draw to tie the game at 21 at the end of the first half.
Historically speaking, OSU is one of the worst overtime teams in college football history, having won only five all-time. The Pokes' only other overtime game this season was its only loss against Iowa State but the Cowboys got the job done in the desert.
OSU pulled out a great overtime win to secure the school's first 12-win season and first BCS victory.
Boone talks contract
OSU megabooster Boone Pickens met with media before the Fiesta Bowl and he confirmed what most have assumed about the Gundy contract negotiations — the sticking point is the years on the deal, not the dollars.
He said Mike Holder has talked about not repeating a 10-year contract that he made with OSU basketball coach Travis Ford.
"Y'all saw what Holder said," Pickens said. "He made that mistake once. He's not going to make it again."
Pickens also confirmed that the contract is in excess of $3 million. After that win and everything else this team has accomplished this season, it's hard to imagine these contract talks won't sway in Gundy's favor.
Finding a way to win
At first glance you wouldn't think the Cowboys would be the victorious team when looking at the final stat sheet.
Stanford outgained OSU 590 to 412 in total yards, held a 41:37 to 18:13 advantage in time of possession, and had 243 rushing yards to OSU's 13. Yet the Pokes won in OT, that's why they play the games.
