Oklahoman Has It Right On Sanders

Early Thursday afternoon, The Oklahoman reported that a source close to Heritage Hall standout running back Barry J. Sanders, and the son of former Oklahoma State Heisman Trophy winning and College and Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders, had told them that Sanders would announce his college choice as Stanford on Saturday.

Sanders has said for months he will make his selection publicly known at the U.S. Army All-American Game, which he is playing in down in San Antonio, Tex.

This really makes sense as the recruiting relationship between Sanders and Oklahoma State has appeared to cool off in the last month or two. Sanders did make it to the Bedlam game, but for the first time in a long time did not come into the locker room after the game. He knows many of the Cowboys players and has been known to even come up and visit campus and friends on his own and those trips have waned.

This season Sanders carried 141 times for 1,343 yards and 30 touchdowns. He also played well on defense. Stanford has been a regular in making visits weekly since recruiting opened up and it appears they have won out over Alabama and Florida State as well.

Sanders once said about recruiting, "I am going to have to separate the fan in me from what is best for Barry Sanders the player. I have always been on Oklahoma State fan and I always will be. It is the school that I followed growing up, but I have to chose the school that is best for me as a football player and a student and not Oklahoma State because they have always been my favorite."

It looks like that is what he is about to do.
