"I wanted to check out things and they showed us some things but they also want us to come back. I did get to spend some time with Coach (Kasey) Dunn and talk to him, and then before we left I got to talk to the head coach, Coach Gundy, and they did offer me."
Ateman has offers from roughly 12 to 15 schools, including Arizona, Baylor, Michigan, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Texas Tech and Washington State.
Last season he put up really strong numbers as Ateman had 67 receptions for 1,047 yards and 10 touchdowns. He has the size and athletic ability that passing schools are looking for as he told me he is already training in track and plans to excel in the 400 meters.
He also said he had been to a junior day at Baylor and was looking to try to make similar events at Oklahoma, Michigan (offered), Alabama, and LSU.
"Today I wanted to see how it was, the campus, how everybody is, the coaching staff," explained Ateman. "They throw the ball a lot and I know that is something that attracts me.
"No, that will have nothing to do with it," answered Ateman when asked about social life and academics. "The reason is every college has stuff that you can do, and Oklahoma State is not far from a city. That doesn't matter.
"Academics, most schools can provide that and I know they will have good academics. It really will come down to how I fit in with the coaches and the players. That is what is important to me making my choice."
Ateman was one of several prospects on hand Saturday that opted not to attend the OSU-Texas basketball game and this is why they were heading home a little earlier than some of the attendees.
