Maurice Smith Picks Up Offer From Cowboys

Oklahoma State's new defensive staff member Van Malone has been at work this week, and now it looks like he is in the mix down in the Houston area. Ahmard Vital from Fox Sports Next is reporting that Fort Bend (Dulles), Texas standout safety, cornerback and receiver Maurice Smith has added an Oklahoma State offer to his previous scholarship opportunities.

Maurice Smith already has offers from Arkansas, Baylor, LSU, Nebraska, OU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Utah.

The new offer from the Cowboys was reported in a text message as Vital is good friends with the Smith family. The best recruiting news from the Greater Houston area generally revolves around Vital.

The 6-1, 180-pound Smith is one of the best at his skill level in Texas. He shows up well on his junior highlight tape with plays that show him picking off a pass in press coverage and release. It also shows him jumping a slant route for an interception, as well as good pursuit and the ability to break down on tackles. It also shows highlights in both the return game and on offense.

During his junior season Smith finished with 63 tackles, three interceptions, two fumbles returned for touchdowns, and 13 offensive touchdowns scored. He also earned first-team All-District 23-5A Zone B. He also received other all-star mention and is considered one of the top senior defenders for next season in the state of Texas.
