Pair of OSU QB Targets Commit Elsewhere

It was not a great Thursday for the Oklahoma State Cowboys when it came to quarterback recruiting as a pair of prospects the Cowboys had eyed, and one they had offered, made verbal commitments to other schools.

Verbal commitments are non-binding but Cody Thomas of Colleyville (Heritage), Texas made a pledge to Oklahoma. The Sooners had missed on a couple of national quarterback prospects and like many schools including Oklahoma State had offered Thomas.

in fact, Oklahoma State was just by his high school to check out Thomas earlier this week. Thomas is also an outstanding baseball prospect and could be a candidate for the MLB Amateur Draft a year from now.

Oklahoma State had not yet offered Mildred, Texas quarterback Nic Shimonek, but assistant coach Doug Meacham had been by to see him. Shimonek, who confirmed his commitment to us by text before preparing for a playoff baseball game, made a pledge to Iowa. His mother also confirmed his commitment to Iowa while talking to the Iowa Scout website.

The Cowboys have other offers to other quarterback prospects. Speculation is that with freshman Wes Lunt named as starting quarterback it could be tough to recruit a quarterback in the 2013 class is one way to look at it. The fact that a freshman came in and was able to compete and win the job in the spring is also a sign to young quarterbacks that they will get a chance with the OSU staff.
