Samples, who earned his trip at the Nike Football Training Camp Combine in Fort Worth, suffered a broken foot this spring and is not participating in the drills.
To make his announcement the 5-11, 170-pound speedster who plays for his father, Reginald Samples, at Dallas Skyline set up caps of his six favorites on a director's chair. There were hats from Oklahoma State, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Texas, USC, and Texas Tech.
When asked to make his choice, Samples picked up Texas and put it down. Then, Ohio State and put it down. OSU and put it down. A&M and almost tried it on, and then said I need to go ahead and do this and put on the orange and black Oklahoma State hat.
"They just made me feel at home," said Samples of his decision. "When I was there I got to stay with the players and I was able to talk to Coach Gundy. I had a lot of one on one time with him and he talked to me about my family."
Samples, who caught 65 passes for 1,369 yards and 20 touchdowns last season, was in Stilwater during spring football with his family. His dad coached both Richetti Jones and former OSU basketball standout Byron Eaton at Dallas Lincoln High School.
Remember, Jones committed to OSU and then shortly afterward suffered a fractured hip. It was a career-threatening injury but OSU stood by Jones and let him heal and he eventually became an impact player on the Cowboys defense.
He also fell in love with Oklahoma State and has been one of its best recruiters. Jones spent a lot of time with the Samples on their visit and stays close to his former high school coach and their family.
Samples is a huge commitment for the 2013 class. He is also the lucky 13th commitment in the 2013 class.
The Cowboys could get further good news from The Opening as Marietta (Lassiter), Ga. receiver Ryan Jenkins is also expected to announce his college commitment between the Cowboys and the favorite Clemson.
