According to The Salt Lake Tribune, Del Rio had a big passing night for Valor Christian (0-2) against Utah powerhouse South Jordan Bingham (1-1) in a game that Bingham won in overtime 22-21.
Del Rio's Twitter posts on Sunday described a forearm injury. We spoke with Del Rio on Sunday evening and he confirmed the injury.
"Yes, I got dinged up," said Del Rio using a favorite Mike Gundy term. "My arm was caught between two helmets and there may be a small fracture.
"It is my left arm and I already know that I can play with it. I will find out for sure when we X-ray it (Monday). I can wear a brace on that arm. We have a bye week this week, so that comes at the perfect time. Then coming off the bye we play Heritage."
Del Rio's team has faced two tough opponents, and he was very complimentary of Bingham.
"They have size and strength and they are tough," said the Oklahoma State commitment. "A lot of their offensive and defensive linemen are Polynesian and they do the Haka dance before the game. That is pretty cool."
An Elite 11 quarterback, Del Rio committed earlier this summer to Oklahoma State calling the Cowboys his top choice and dream school. Current Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Todd Monken worked for Del Rio's father when he was head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
