Newell Heading To OSU For Unofficial Visit

Standout junior defensive lineman and jumbo athlete Peyton Newell of Hiawatha, Kan., will be heading to Oklahoma State this Saturday after his game on Friday night with Nemaha Valley. Hiawatha is now 3-1, and you can read up on Newell's stellar game against Royal Valley and see highlights in a story written by TCU site editor Jeremy Clark.

The 6-3, 275-pound Peyton Newell, doubling on the the defensive line and at tight end, had eight tackles in the game, five tackles for loss, two sacks, and an amazing four forced fumbles. On offense, he caught two passes and one for a touchdown bringing his touchdown receptions total to three in this is his first year of playing tight end.

He now has 16 offers ranging from Oklahoma State (one of his favorites) to Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas State, Iowa State, and all the way out to UCLA.

"Oklahoma State is right at the top, and they have been all along," said Newell's father, Frank. "He likes (Bill) Young and (Mike) Gundy and those facilities. What player wouldn't like those facilities?"

Mr. Newell went on to say that after the game this Friday with Nemaha Valley the family will start heading to Stillwater for the unofficial visit that will include academic tour, campus tour, viewing "The Walk" before the game, and the game itself.

The family patriarch said those heading to Stillwater will be he and his wife, Peyton, a younger sibling, and Mr. Newell's parents.

"Peyton wants them to see the campus and see the (Student) Union," said Newell. "His grandparents are going to be instrumental in his decision."

Newell has camped at Oklahoma State and has been to the campus on a number of occasions, lending credence that the Cowboys are very involved in his recruiting.
