Future Cowboys: Which Stars Shine Brightest?

The high school playoffs began in Colorado and Kansas, which means several players who are committed to Oklahoma State now face the prospect of playing their final prep games. But that wasn't the case for Luke Del Rio of Valor Christian (Colo.) and Jerel Morrow of Emporia, Kan., as their teams won first-round playoff games. Here are the results and available statistics from this week's games.

Marcell Ateman, WR (6-4, 190)
East High School (Wylie, Texas)
This week's game: Ateman caught an 80-yard touchdown pass as Wylie East surged to a 36-7 halftime lead and went on to capture a 50-26 victory over McKinney North on Friday night. For the season, Ateman has 53 receptions for 1,089 yards (20.6 yards per catch) for 16 touchdowns.

This week's game: Del Rio completed 8 of 12 passes for 181 yards and a season-best four touchdowns as Valor Christian defeated Legacy 52-6 in a first-round game of the Class 5A playoffs on Friday night. The Eagles led 28-0 in the first quarter and 42-0 at halftime in rolling to their eighth consecutive win during which time they've outscored their opponents 404-27. For the season, Del Rio is now 116 of 170 passing (68.2 percent) for 1,579 yards with 20 touchdowns and three interceptions.

This week's game: Irving suffered a 55-0 loss to Euless Trinity on Friday night but despite the loss will enter the final week of the regular season with a chance to make the playoffs. Irving (3-6) must defeat crosstown rival Irving MacArthur next Friday to clinch a berth in the postseason.

This week's game: Ross caught five passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns, and finished with 151 all-purpose yards Friday night as Killeen rolled to a 50-7 victory over Nacogdoches to set up next week's season finale against undefeated Whitehouse. Ross had touchdown receptions of 40 and 9 yards for the Lions. For the season, he has 40 catches for 723 yards (18.1 average) and 11 touchdowns.

This week's game: Samples had just three catches for 34 yards and did not have a touchdown catch for the first time this season but Skyline had an easy time in Thursday night's 70-14 victory over W.T. White. For the season, Samples has 40 receptions for 716 yards (17.9 yards per catch) and 18 touchdowns.
