Future Cowboys: Who Was Best This Weekend?

Two Oklahoma State commits came up big when it counted most. Fred Ross caught three touchdown passes to help John Tyler High rally from a 24-0 deficit and clinch the district championship with the victory. Corion Webster, bothered by injuries much of the season, rushed for a season-best 272 yards and two touchdowns on 36 carries to lead Atlanta High into the Texas Class 3A Division II playoffs.

Marcell Ateman, WR (6-4, 190)
East High School (Wylie, Texas)
This week's game: Ateman caught seven passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns but it wasn't enough as Wylie East suffered a 58-32 loss to Lovejoy on Friday night. He had scoring receptions of 30 and 17 yards after Wylie East had fallen behind 30-7. Wylie East (7-3) still advances to play in the Class 4A Division II playoffs. For the season, Ateman has 60 receptions for 1,172 yards (19.5 yards per catch) for 17 touchdowns.

LUKE DEL RIO, QB (6-2, 195)
Valor Christian High School (Highlands Ranch, Colo.)
This week's game: Del Rio threw for 144 yards and a touchdown as Valor Christian defeated Regis Jesuit 44-3 on Saturday afternoon in a second-round game of the Class 5A playoffs. The Eagles improved to 9-2 to advance to the quarterfinals to play Arapahoe (10-2). For the season, Del Rio has completed better than 65 percent of his passes for 1,724 yards and 21 touchdowns with just three interceptions.

This week's game: Morrow blocked a punt early in the game and it was scooped up by a teammate who returned it for a touchdown but Emporia saw its season come to an end Friday night with a 35-20 loss to second-ranked Salina South in a Class 5A West Section playoff game. The Spartans finish 9-2, the first time Emporia has won that many games since 1997.

Ross had TD catches of 25, 54 and 71 yards to help the Lions improve to 9-1. He also rushed four times for 25 yards. For the season, he has 47 catches for 910 yards (19.4 average) and 14 touchdowns.
