Future Cowboys: Ateman, Sterns Lead The Way

Last week, it was Fred Ross of John Tyler High and Corion Webster of Atlanta High with outstanding performances in the final week of the regular season in Texas. It was two other future Cowboys – Marcell Ateman of Wylie East and Jordan Sterns of Cibolo Steele – with sensational outings this week in the Texas high school playoffs. Here's a look at how each of the OSU commitments did this week.

MARCELL ATEMAN, WR (6-4, 190)
East High School (Wylie, Texas)
This week's game: Ateman had the game of his high school career in Wylie East's first-round playoff game as he caught 11 passes for 197 yards and five touchdowns. He scored three times in the first quarter (on receptions of 47, 10 and 33 yards), added a 21-yard TD catch in the second period and also caught a 24-yard score in the third quarter of Wylie East's 70-33 victory over Sulphur Springs. Wylie East (8-3) advances to play Whitehouse (10-1) in a Class 4A Division II bi-district game. For the season, Ateman has 71 receptions for 1,369 yards (19.3 yards per catch) for 22 touchdowns.

ZACH CRABTREE, OL (6-7, 260)
Mansfield High School (Mansfield, Texas)
This week's game: Crabtree will have the bragging rights when he and Killeen's Deric Robertson get to Stillwater, as Mansfield defeated Killeen 41-21 on Friday night. Mansfield (7-4) advances to play the winner of Saturday's game between Flower Mound Marcus and Euless Trinity.

DARIUS CURRY, CB (6-1, 190)
Flowery Branch High School (Flowery Branch, Ga.)
This week's game: Flowery Branch saw its season come to an end with a 63-43 first-round playoff loss to North Paulding on Friday night. Flowery Branch (8-3) suffered a first-round playoff loss for only the second time in the last six seasons.

LUKE DEL RIO, QB (6-2, 195)
Valor Christian High School (Highlands Ranch, Colo.)
This week's game: Del Rio completed 22 of 30 passes for a season-best 235 yards and three touchdowns as Valor Christian defeated Arapahoe 49-18 in a Class 5A quarterfinal playoff game. The Eagles (10-2) will now play ThunderRidge (11-1) in a semifinal game. For the season, Del Rio has completed 151 of 218 passes (68.6 percent) for 1,958 yards and 24 touchdowns with just three interceptions.

Alief Taylor High School (Houston, Texas)
This week's game: Okoronkwo's hit on the quarterback forced a fumble which teammate Torrodney Prevot scooped up and took 45 yards for a touchdown to give Alief Taylor a lead which it would never relinquish en route to a 28-7 victory over Houston Cy-Fair 28-7 on Friday night in a Class 5A Division I bi-district playoff game.

DERIC ROBERTSON, S (6-2, 185)
Killeen High School (Killeen, Texas)
This week's game: Killeen saw its season come to an end Friday night with a 41-21 loss to Mansfield in the first round of the Class 5A Division I playoffs. Killeen, which was making its first playoff appearance in Class 5A since 2001, finishes with a 7-4 record.

JESSE ROBINSON, OL (6-6, 280)
L.D. Bell High School (Hurst, Texas)
This week's game: Bell saw its season come to and end Saturday as Denton Ryan won 31-28 on a field goal in the game's final minutes at Cowboys Stadium. Bell finishes the season 7-4.

FRED ROSS, WR (6-0, 180)
John Tyler High School (Tyler, Texas)
This week's game: Ross caught six passes for 180 yards and a pair of touchdowns as John Tyler rolled to an easy 77-20 victory over Waxahachie in a Class 4A Division I bi-district game. He scored on an 87-yard catch and run midway through the second quarter and added a 34-yard scoring reception a few minutes later. For the season, he has 53 catches for 1,090 yards (20.6 average) and 17 touchdowns.

RA'SHAAD SAMPLES, WR (5-11, 170)
Skyline High School (Dallas, Texas)
This week's game: Samples caught four passes for 53 yards and a touchdown as Skyline defeated Plano 35-14 on Friday night in a Class 5A Division I bi-district playoff game. His 22-yard catch and run midway through the fourth quarter gave Skyline a 28-7 lead. For the season, Samples has 47 receptions for 792 yards (16.9 yards per catch) and 20 touchdowns.

JORDAN STERNS, DB (5-11, 190)
Steele High School (Cibolo, Texas)
This week's game: Sterns had a 46-yard punt return for a touchdown, breaking four tackles according to newspaper accounts of the play, as No. 1-ranked Cibolo Steele improved to 11-0 with an easy 49-17 victory over San Antonio Marshall in a Class 5A Division II bi-district playoff opener.

VINCENT TAYLOR, DT (6-3, 270)
Madison High School (San Antonio, Texas)
This week's game: Madison scored twice in a 30-second span in the fourth quarter to take control en route to a 37-21 victory over Wagner in a Class 5A Division I bi-district playoff game on Friday night.

CORIAN WEBSTER, RB (5-11, 190)
Atlanta High School (Atlanta, Texas)
This week's game: The Atlanta Rabbits running game was unstoppable Friday night with Webster leading the way. Webster finished with 159 rushing yards with two touchdowns on just 13 carries and teammate Everett Dickerson had 110 rushing yards on six attempts as Atlanta defeated Wills Point 72-32 in a Class 3A Division II bi-district playoff game. The Rabbits finished with 497 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. Atlanta (5-6) advances to play Gilmer (10-1), a team they Rabbits lost to 31-17 in the season opener on Aug. 30. For the season, Webster has rushed for 1,561 yards and 13 touchdowns on 206 carries (an average of 7.6 yards per attempt), despite missing several games with injuries.
