Closing Out The Recruiting Class

With classes for the spring semester beginning Monday at Oklahoma State and with the recent addition of Alpharetta, Ga., defensive end Naim Mustafaa to the class, we thought this would be a good time to reset where the Cowboys are as they work to finish the 2013 recruiting class.

As Division I football rolls into the second and shorter dead period for the AFCA Convention which convened this weekend and runs through Thursday, the Cowboys are looking for a few holes to fill and at a couple of major cherries to put on top of the recruiting class.

Here is where the Cowboys are with a breakdown of the recruiting class by position:
Offense: 9
QB - 0
RB - 1
WR - 3
OL - 5 (one on campus for the spring)

Defense: 10
DE - 2 (both on campus for the spring)
DT - 2
LB - 0
CB - 3
S - 3

Specialists: 1
K - 1

Perceived Needs:
Possibly another DE, CB, and S

Recruits we believe strongly under consideration:
Altee Tenpenny, RB, 5-11, 200, 4.5, North Little Rock, Ark. - Verbally committed to Alabama (1/11/13), but considering Ark (1/18/13) and OSU (1/25/13)
Laquon Treadwell, WR, 6-3, 183, 4.5, Crete-Monee, Ill. - Miss (9/15/12), OSU (1/11/13), OU (12/14/12)
Tyus Bowser, DE, 6-3, 225, 4.6, Tyler (John Tyler), Texas - OSU (1/18/13), MU, Mem, WVU, ULL
Daeshon Hall, DE, 6-6, 230, 4.75, Lancaster, Texas - Verbally committed to Wash (1/25/13), but considering A&M, OSU (1/18/13), MU, WaSt (10/12/12)

Basically, we think Oklahoma State has room to bring in two or three more in the class. The most desired candidates come from the list above.

The Cowboys will bring in a huge contingent on prospects (19 by our count) for official visits on Jan. 18. That could change and some names could change based on coaching changes and possible de-commits or softened commitments.
