Gyasi Akem: Four Schools Are Most Active

The last time we spoke with Broken Arrow linebacker Gyasi Akem, he was on his way home with teammate and quarterback Coleman Key of the Tigers as they had been to Stillwater for Junior Day with the Oklahoma State staff. Akem said he really liked the facilities and enjoyed spending time watching video and talking defense with Cowboys defensive coordinator/linebacker coach Glenn Spencer.

He also talked about looking forward to track season to show off his speed and athleticism.

"Not much has changed since then," said Gyasi Akem as he was heading home after work on Wednesday night. "I've been to OU for a junior day since then.

"There are really four schools that are recruiting me hard right now. I'm hearing a lot from OSU and OU, and then Ole Miss and Tennessee are really recruiting me hard and showing interest."

A lot of schools have shown some interest, but according to Akem those are the ones showing the most as he has successfully come off a torn ACL.

He had 44 tackles, three sacks, two tackles for loss, and two interceptions a year ago for the Tigers. Schools like Baylor, Clemson, Missouri, TCU and Washington State have also offered.

"Track season has started and we won our first meet," he added. "I'm running 110 and 300 hurdles."

He also was in Dallas in March for a prospect camp and said he performed "not too bad, I was happy with it, I guess."

Akem, who is 6-1, 215 pounds, didn't sound like anything was going to happen immediately with his recruitment, but he did seem to be pleased with the attention he is getting and from the schools he is getting attention from.
