Quickel Resembles Clay Matthews

I wasn't the only reporter at the Nike NFTC watching linebacker #230 down on the field with the long blond hair tied up in a pony tail and thinking Clay Matthews. Okay, Tim Quickel is not nearly as big as Clay Matthews but the North Little Rock, Ark., prospect does move really well, and he was easily able to cover everything from running backs to tight ends and even inside receivers.

"I think I did real good," said the 6-foot-2, 210-pound Tim Quickel said when being interviewed after the event. "I think I mixed it up with all of the rest of the linebackers."

I think he did too. He seemed surprised that he was requested for an interview and admitted that he has had little recruiting attention thus far. There may be a reason as when you check on the internet you find him listed at Little Rock Central High School.

"I just transfered over to North Little Rock and I played at Little Rock Central before that. But so far it has been an amazing experience at North Little Rock," Quickel said. "We really work hard on the field and we work hard on the books."

So I asked if he'd heard from any schools? "No sir," was his reply.

That is a shame and I have to think it will change. He lists a bunch of SEC schools like Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi State and others as schools that interest him.

He is undersized right now but last season he made 63 total tackles, 45 unassisted, 2.5 sacks, and 7.0 tackles for loss. He has a 340-pound bench press max and a 435-pound squat max with a 33.6 vertical and a 9'1" broad jump.

My guess from watching at the NFTC is that Quickel has a metabolism that is off the chart and that he will gain weight in time. If he keeps the hair then he really will more closely resemble Clay Matthews. Someone that even remotely resembles the former USC and current Green Bay linebacker is a prospect worth investigating.
