Solomon Thomas Worthy Of Attention

One of the most wanted prospects at the Nike NFTC in Allen, Texas last Sunday was defensive end Solomon Thomas of Coppell, Texas. Thomas has put himself in shape to compete with the other top defensive linemen in the 2014 class. He earned the opportunity to do just that by performing well enough to be named the MVP at his position and earn the invitation and trip to Oregon for Nike's The Opening.

That is just part of the story for the 6-3, 250-pound Thomas, who last season was listed at 6-3, 263 pounds.

The other part of it is the impressive scholarship offer list that has some 25 offers including Arkansas, Baylor, BYU, Clemson, Colorado, Houston, Iowa, ULL, Mississippi, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, OU, Stanford, Texas, Texas A&M, UCLA, Vanderbilt, Virginia, and West Virginia. Those are some reallhy nice offers.

"Yes sir, it is a blessing," said Thomas in what almost seems an understatement.

Thomas, obviously, had a big day Sunday and he was most modest in describing his day at the NFTC that ended with him holding the plaque for the Defensive Lineman MVP.

"We started out with our SPARQ combine and then we went through the position drills," described Thomas. "In the one-on-one competition I went as hard as I could because I like to compete, and I took the coaching that the coaches were giving because any help I can get to become better I'm going to take advantage of it."

The one-on-one drills featured pass rush and with an ultra quick first step and good technique with his pass rush moves, a strong upper body, Thomas was really effective and won his reps. You have to think pass rush with six sacks last season is his favorite. He also had 80 total tackles and 14 tackles for loss and says stopping the run is also important to him.

"I love stopping the run, and it is just as fun, run or pass, I like them both," Thomas answered.

As for his recruiting, Thomas said he has not narrowed his list yet. He said Oklahoma State is under consideration, but the Cowboys are one of many for this talented Texan.

"I'm still wide open and I'm planning to take my visits," said Thomas.
