Remember the Ten Run Is Saturday

The seventh annual Remember the Ten Run will take place Saturday on the campus of Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. Organizers expect a record turnout with more than 2,200 participants and 150 volunteers.

Since the inception of Remember the Ten Run six years ago, $120,000 has been raised for the OSU Student Counseling Center. Additionally, proceeds have funded the "Remember the Ten Run Scholarships," awarded annually to ten outstanding counseling students.

"These funds have provided extensive training for senior staff in the areas of suicide grief, bereavement support groups, complicated grief, and the spiritual dimensions of grief and loss," said Suzanne Burks, director of University Counseling Services. "Fee waivers have been provided for students coping with grief issues and resource materials, such as grief journals, are provided to students free of charge, thanks to the funds from the run."

Event founder and chair Kerry Alexander said the run was established to celebrate the lives of the 10 men who died in the 2001 OSU basketball plane crash, as well as to raise awareness about the ways grief affects us and support OSU Student Counseling Center.

"We hope that members of the OSU family, those touched by the lives of the ten and both avid and recreational runners will find the event to be deeply meaningful and a time of celebration of those who we lost," said Alexander.

The run offers participants the choice of a 1-mile fun run, 5K and 10K with registration open to the public. Online registration is open until 5 p.m. Friday with a cost of $25. Registration the day of the event will be $30.

The run activities will begin at 7:30 a.m. Saturday in front of Gallagher-Iba Arena and kick off Saturday's "Legends Weekend" slate of events which also includes the spring game for the OSU football team, baseball against Kansas State and softball against Kansas.
