Gyasi Akem: I Like The Environment At OSU

Word was spreading like wildfire on the sidelines prior to the start of Oklahoma State's Spring Football Finale that linebacker Gyasi Akem of Broken Arrow, Okla., had joined his teammate Devon Thomas in pledging to Oklahoma State. caught up with Akem on Saturday night to talk about his decision to commit to the Cowboys.

"Yes, I did commit to Oklahoma State," said Akem several hours after the trip to Stillwater.

"Most of all, I really like the environment there in Stillwater at Oklahoma State. It was really good today, and I was able to spend time talking to the players and getting to know them and the team."

Akem has been to Oklahoma State on several occassions and he seems to have a real comfortable feeling about being around the coaches and players.

"I spoke with Coach (Glenn) Spencer and Coach (Mike) Gundy, and yes, I think they were happy."

Akem said he was happy getting the decision out of the way and putting a finish on his recruiting decision.

He said he had been in Allen, Texas a few weeks ago like myself, and he was there mainly so his brother could work out in the Nike NFTC. He understands the competition involved in recruiting events like that, but he also realized he had earned plenty of good choices in recruiting with his play at Broken Arrow. He seemed ready to make a decision.

The 6-1, 220-pound Akem had 44 tackles, three sacks, two tackles for loss and two interceptions a year ago for the Tigers.

He had offers from OSU, Oklahoma, Baylor, Clemson, Houston, Mississippi, Missouri, TCU, Tennessee, Washington State and Arkansas State. He is the third commitment in the 2014 OSU recruiting class and the second linebacker, joining Justin Phillips out of Pearland, Texas.

Akem said his next football will be May 13 when Broken Arrow starts spring football activities.
