Roberts Wastes No Time In Committing

Trey Roberts is known as an athletic quarterback at Houston (Eisenhower), Texas, but the talented athlete appears to be headed for the defensive side of the ball in college. SMU likes him as a wide receiver. TCU likes him as an athlete. Michigan State and Utah, the latest school to make him an offer on Wednesday, like him too. Then he received another offer, and it didn't take long to accept.

"Yes sir, from Oklahoma State," said the 6-1 1/2, 190-pound speedster about his second offer on Wednesday. "That offer made me feel wonderful. I liked that offer so much that I committed to Oklahoma State."

As a quarterback, Roberts last season had more than 1,000 yards of total offense and was responsible for eight touchdowns.

"I did play some defense on some critical downs," Roberts said.

Oklahoma State cornerbacks coach Van Malone is the recruiting coach on Roberts. It is expected that he will play cornerback for the Cowboys as he has the really good size and great speed, a sub-4.5 in the forty and he clocked a 10.7 and a 10.92 in track meets this spring for Eisenhower.

Roberts said it was a visit to OSU for a game last fall that had him ready to pounce on the Cowboys offer.

"I was there for a game last fall against Texas," Roberts said. "It was a great game and a great game atmosphere. I loved the campus and the whole area was great. I just felt welcomed the entire time I was there. It felt like family, and Coach Malone and I have developed a really strong relationship."

Roberts's real first name is Trevion, but he said he prefers Trey. Again, he had offers from SMU, TCU, Utah, and interest from a number of other schools including Michigan State.

Roberts also said that he intends to attend Oklahoma State camp coming up.
