Ledbetter A Huge Target For Cowboys

It was obvious that Oklahoma State is interested in the big young man wearing a white shirt and black shorts by the number of coaches that stopped to say hello on Saturday. The big, athletic player was Jeremiah Ledbetter, who is expected to take the Jayhawk Conference by storm this season playing in the middle of the defensive line at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College.

Originally, out of Gainesville, Ga., where he led his team to the semifinals as a senior playing nose guard, Ledbetter redshirted last season at Hutch. He now has this season but then three more to play at his future school.

Saturday he was in Stillwater with several teammates.

"It was good, a good experience," said Ledbetter of the visit. "The weight room and locker room stood out, and I really liked what I saw there. Oklahoma State is a good school and they are high on my list.

"I spoke to Coach (Mike) Gundy and he was telling me what it is like for the athletes at Oklahoma State," continued Ledbetter. "How good it is from the living conditions to the food to the academics and football."

It was tough for Ledbetter to not play last season but he understands now how it will really pay off for him. It will pay dividends not only at Hutch this season because he is bigger and stronger but the advantage of having three seasons to play at the next level.

"My coach's idea and they really did me right with that," he added.

There's no timetable to his decision on where he will go after Hutch, but Ledbetter is hoping to be able to transfer in December and be at his next school by January. He is at Hutchinson this summer taking classes.
