OSU Makes An Impression On Averette

One of the top junior college linebacker prospects in the nation was in Stillwater this weekend to check out Oklahoma State on an official visit. Devante Averette is a speedster at 6-1, 230 pounds who has had a lot of success patroling behind the defensive line at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Averette has been committed to West Virginia.

Averette, originally from Melvindale, Mich., a suburb of Detroit, has 4.45 speed. As a freshman, he had 79 tackles with 3.5 sacks and 15 tackles for losses. He has 62 tackles so far this season with 47 of those unassisted. He also has two sacks, 18 tackles for 60 yards in losses, and a fumble caused and another fumble recovered.

It's safe to say that those rash of turnovers forced by the Oklahoma State defense in the second half of the Kansas State game had an impact on him.

"It went great," said Averette of the visit. "I loved it, all of it. I loved everything from the people to the food to the atmosphere. It was real cool. I could see myself on that field making those big plays that were being made on the field."

Averette said he arrived on Friday and was able to really check out what happens on a game weekend. He said he did not stay in the same hotel with the team the night before the game.

"I had my own hotel, another hotel," he said. "It was great and I really liked everything about the school and the town. The people really love their team and support them."

Ellsworth had a bye week this past weekend and now Averette gets back to work with his teammates for this week's game against North Dakota School of Science.

As for where he stands in recruiting, Averette said Oklahoma State made a huge impression on him and he is supposed to get back in touch with OSU defensive coordinator Glenn Spencer early this week.
