Michael Warren Continues To Impress

Personally, I think one of the best recruiting stories of the year is happening before our eyes in Lawton, Okla., with Wolverines senior running back Michael Warren. The 6-1, 182-pound Warren is running out of his shoes, and he's doing it on the road and at home like he did last Friday in eclipsing any of his previous efforts for the unbeaten Lawton High Wolverines, 7-0.

Against Edmond Santa Fe, Warren ran inside, outside, and around the Wolves defense for 330 yards and five touchdowns on 26 carries. Warren cruised for scoring runs of 21, 29, 55, 63, and 70 yards in the contest raising his season numbers to 1,681 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns on 177 carries. His per carry average is 9.5 yards!

"Yeah, I really look for the holes, really look for the blocking," explained Warren to Scout.com earlier this season. "Knowing where your people are is one of the best things for me out on the field. Knowing where my blockers are and peripheral vision and all that works for me."

Warren really does run with his eyes, a true talent, and he has strength and speed to go with that vision.

We had done a story earlier on Warren and listed some incorrect academic information, according to his mother, Barbara Warren, who is active duty in the U.S. Army. His father is retired from the U.S. Army. She wanted that information corrected and we are always striving to be right.

"He has a 3.8 GPA this semester," said Mrs. Warren. "He was very disappointed in that report because he takes his academics very seriously. Michael is a quiet young man and away from football he really doesn't talk about it. My husband and I want to make sure he stays grounded and approaches all of these opportunities the right way.

"He needs to stay humble and then stay on top of things like his academics, so that he can take advantage of the opportunities," added Mrs. Warren, while also saying she and her husband are somewhat amazed by what is going on.

We did confirm that Northeastern A&M Junior College did offer a scholarship to Warren, and NEO did have a coach at the Santa Fe game. Greg Powers of Scout.com clued us in that the University of Toledo has offered a scholarship and Mrs. Warren confirmed that, but word and video is just now circulating and this is going to continue to be a fun story to follow.

Mrs. Warren did mention that part of Michael's late blooming might have something to do with him moving around as part of a military family.

"Some of the schools were not as good and that is part of it," said Mrs. Warren. "The schools in Hawaii were not as good and that is something he has worked to overcome."

Football fans in the Oklahoma City area can catch a view this week of one of the hottest running backs in this season as Lawton plays Putnam City West at Putnam City Stadium on Thursday night. Warren is also scheduled to take the ACT on Saturday.
