Oklahoma State begins the basketball season ranked eighth in the Associated Press poll. It's the highest preseason for the Cowboys since beginning the 2004-05 season ranked No. 7 in the AP preseason poll. That OSU team won 26 games and were the Big 12 regular season and postseason tournament champions.
The Cowboys, 24-9 last season, received 1,093 votes in the AP poll to tie with Syracuse for eighth in the preseason rankings.
National Player of the Year candidate Marcus Smart, senior Markel Brown and junior Le'Bryan Nash are expected to lead the Cowboys to their best season in head coach Travis Ford's six years as head coach.
OSU plays Emporia (Kan.) State on Friday night at Gallagher-Iba Arena in its final exhibition game of the season, and then the Cowboys open the regular season Friday, Nov. 8, against Mississippi Valley State in GIA.
