Kenny Young Hopes To Make It To Bedlam

Standout linebacker Kenny Young from River Ridge (John Curtis Christian), La. is hoping that he might make it to Stillwater on Saturday to catch Bedlam. The reason he even has a chance is that Curtis made its way into the Louisiana Division II state championship game with a resounding 40-6 victory over tradition-rich high school Evangel Christian out of Shreveport.

"I'm hoping to make it there, but I may not be able to," said Young, who made an unofficial visit to OSU last August and hit it off with Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy and defensive coordinator Glenn Spencer. "We may have practice and if we do, practice comes first."

Young added four tackles to his season total of 107 tackles in the win over Evangel Christian. He also has three sacks and has only played in nine of the team's 11 games.

John Curtis is 9-2 overall on the season and will play University Lab of Baton Rouge in the championship in the Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12.

"I only played a few plays into the fourth quarter against Evangel," said Young of the 40-6 win. "They were mainly a passing team and didn't run the ball much. We'll be ready for Lab in the championship."

Young said he really has not decided on the schools he is going to officially visit, except one.

"I know my first visit, it's Florida State," he said Sunday afternoon. "The rest I'm trying to decide and I'm working on it."

Besides Florida State the top schools in contention appear to be Oklahoma State, LSU, Miami (Fla.), UCLA, and Texas A&M. The 6-2, 225-pound hard hitting defender has offers from close to 40 schools.
