Wary Promising Prospect For Cowboys

The Wary family is doing some entertaining this week. College football coaches are on the road recruiting this week and the home of Zack Wary is a stop circled by a number of schools. The 6-4, 215-pound safety from Rogers, Ark., has great size for safety, tremendous potential as a student, and the kind of speed coaches dream of in the secondary and especially for a player of that size.

That is why Barry Odom, the defensive coordinator at Memphis, stopped by Tuesday night and the reason Oklahoma State safeties coach Tim Duffie will be there on Thursday.

It's that visit from OSU that had Zack's mom and one of his biggest fans, Kim Wary, emailing Scout's Greg Powers, who passed it on to us.

"I did know she is one of my biggest fans," Zack Wary said. "She is one of my two biggest, my dad too, and I love her to death."

Zack shows on video to be a hard-hitting safety that has the size and the 4.45 speed (he clocked that in an Arkansas combine in Fayetteville this summer) to suffocate receivers large and small in coverage.

He helped Rogers to an improved 7-4 record and a playoff appearance this fall while making close to 90 tackles with nine tackles for loss and an interceptions along with several close calls including an interception called back on a penalty.

He will make an official visit to Arkansas this weekend and has two other visits planned. He has offers from the Razorbacks, Arkansas State, Memphis, Air Force, Illinois State, Missouri State, and Ivy League schools Harvard, Yale, and Princeton.

On top of his football ability, Zack Wary has a 4.0 GPA and scored a 33 on the ACT.

"I'm looking at majoring in biochemistry or engineering," Wary answered. "I haven't completely decided yet."

He's got good school choices, a bright future and he really wants an offer from Oklahoma State because he really likes the Cowboys.

"They are my top choice, but I don't have an offer yet, so I can't do anything about it," Wary added. "I'm hoping for that on Thursday. I was on the campus this fall (unofficial visits for the K-State and Kansas games) and I was very, very impressed. I liked it a lot, really everything about it."

Wary is a prospect that could be a safety or play the hybrid "star" linebacker position for the Cowboys.

We'll keep our ears open as to how things go with that in-home visit on Thursday. But this much we know, we love any mom that goes out of her way to show her pride in her son and help with recruiting. Mrs. Wary has a lot of reasons to be proud of Zack. He's already got some great options for his college football and education future.
