Averette Heads List Of Junior College Signees

Linebacker Devante Averette of Ellsworth (Iowa) Community College said Tuesday afternoon that he is signing with Oklahoma State on Wednesday, the National Junior College signing day for mid-year transfers. The rest of the activity on Wednesday for the Cowboys is less certain.

Garden City (Kan.) C.C. speedster Tyreek Hill is committed to the Cowboys and expected to sign. But he did visit Texas (officially) with his father this past weekend. He did not apparently change his status of being committed to OSU, but we also have failed in our attempts to reach Hill. We'll keep trying as we believe Hill is home in Douglas, Ga.

D'Nerius Antoine is a safety targeted who is expected to be converted to the "star" linebacker. He that told us he is a spring semester graduate at Trinity Valley C.C. in Athens, Texas. He might sign Wednesday, and told us he would check back with us as he is communicating on that with his coach at Trinity Valley. Antoine is originally from New Iberia, La.

"Yes sir," said Devante Averette, the 6-0, 230-pound standout that totaled 171 tackles in two seasons at Ellsworth. "My high school coach is going to help me (with the signing paperwork) and we might do it at the (school) facility or may do it at my house. I'm excited about it and being at Oklahoma State."

Averette finished with 92 tackles (64 unassisted) this season after 79 total tackles with 15 tackles for loss, four sacks, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery as a freshman. He had earlier committed to West Virginia, but changed his mind after a scholarship offer and an official visit to Oklahoma State.

Averette is back home in the Detroit area where he went to Melvindale High School. He agreed to come on the radio with Triple Play Sports Radio after he signs, sometime around 11:30 a.m.

"I'm back home and just taking it easy and spending time with family and training," added Averette.
