Linebacker Chad Whitener of Mansfield, Texas was ranked as the 44th best inside linebacker in the nation by Scout.com when he committed and signed with the University of California Golden Bears. In his freshman season, Whitener played in all 12 games in 2013 but did not start any games and he finished with six total tackles, four unassisted. He also had a tackle for loss and a fumble recovery.
Whitener reportedly attended the Oklahoma State Cowboys partial open bowl practice on Saturday at Euless Trinity High School, and told several people there that he intends to transfer and enroll at Oklahoma State for the spring semester.
The 6-1, 240-pound Whitener was a standout in high school racking up 334 tackles in his three-year varsity career with 8.0 sacks, three fumbles caused, two fumbles recovered, and an interception. In his senior season he had 145 tackles with 4.0 sacks, 15 tackles for loss, two fumbles caused, and an interception.
You never truly know on a transfer until school starts and if they attend class then it becomes official.
