Head coach Mike Gundy said after the Cowboys two-hour practice in full pads that he is happy with the focus and concentration that the team is showing in the first three days of their onsite preparation for the Cotton Bowl.
"I think our players understand the importance of practice and focus," Gundy said after the practice in which he cleared the indoor facility for the final couple of minutes of team work with the offense going against scouts imitating the Missouri defense.
"We've been fortunate that we've won a number of games the last few years and have been in big bowl games, so they understand that there's three and a half hours a day where we have to be in focus in meetings and practice and then the rest of the time they can enjoy themselves. They enjoy the bowl experience."
The weather was a major change as the temperatures early in the morning were in the 50s before the cold front blew through on Sunday. The front chilled everything down with the high the rest of the day no warmer than 41 degrees and there was a brisk wind blowing making it feel even colder.
"We had a good practice," Gundy added. "The players were enthusiastic outside and then we moved inside some to work on offensive schemes in a little bit of a controlled environment since we're playing indoors."
Part of the excitement Sunday had to be about heading out later for the Dallas-Philadelphia game. The players will be in modified suites with snacks and healthy beverages. They will certainly have a good time.
Monday it is back to work with the final practice at Euless Trinity High School starting at 11:40 a.m., and then media day at AT&T Stadium from 2:45 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. The official team picture for the bowl game will be taken at that time.
Missouri, which did not practice Sunday, will practice at 10:30 a.m. Monday, and then attend media day at 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. The Tigers practice is open to the media.
The Cotton Bowl will kickoff at 7:10 p.m. on Friday. The game will be televised by FOX with Gus Johnson and Charles Davis, and on radio you can catch the Cowboys Radio Network with Dave Hunziker, John Holcomb, and Robert Allen on the call.
GoPokes.com will have video and stories continuing throughout the week, beginning Monday with coverage from both media days at AT&T Stadium.
