Newsome Talks Oklahoma State Offer

Aledo, Texas wide or slot receiver and all-around explosive speed athlete Ryan Newsome got his offer from Oklahoma State earlier this week. The 5-9, 170-pound speedster reminds people of Tyreek Hill. Now that the Oklahoma State coaching staff has an athlete like Hill, and have seen him in the spring, they are no doubt thinking about getting another for the future.

The problem is Newsome has a few schools on his dance card with offers from the likes of Alabama, Tennessee, Notre Dame, TCU, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Texas, Texas Tech, Nebraska, Missouri, Arkansas, Baylor, Clemson, and more.

In fact, when I spoke to him today Newsome was in Oregon making an unofficial visit to check out the Ducks. He had just come from Los Angeles where he toured UCLA and then USC.

"Right now I am out on the West Coast," Newsome explained. "I'm happy Oklahoma State offered me, and it is something that after I take these unofficial visits my parents and I are going to talk about what schools to make official visits to.

"With Oklahoma State, Vili Levini and Jesse Robinson are there and they were teammates of mine when I was a sophomore (at Euless Trinity). Then Ronald Jones (running back from McKinney North) is committed to them, and he is a good friend of mine."

Newsome is a three-way threat on the football field. Last season he had 83 carries rushing the ball for 826 yards and 8 touchdowns. He also caught 21 passes for 532 yards and 10 touchdowns. Then on special teams, he had eight touchdown returns with seven of them on the more dangerous punt returns. His sophomore season he combined for close to 500 yards of offense with six touchdowns, one on a kickoff return.

He seemed pretty excited about his West Coast excursion.

"I'm just sitting here in a hotel room right now, but I will visit Oregon tomorrow," Newsome said. "I'm excited and I've heard Oregon is great. L.A. was good. I was excited to go and I love it. They are more open about things there. I'm from Texas, so it is different. The weather is nice and the two schools were good."

As for his other plans for this summer, Newsome said he will slow it down, although he is back in Oregon in July for Nike's The Opening. Newsome earned his invite at a Nike Football Training Camp.

"I may go to Texas and see those guys again," Newsome answered. "I might take a trip to Tennessee and to Alabama, but if I don't do that then I will stay close to home. I might go see Oklahoma State with Ronald Jones."

I'm fairly sure that would be okay with Mike Gundy and the Oklahoma State staff. Newsome is a tremendous prospect and they young man has a whole bunch of options.
