Cowboys Add LSU Transfer Anthony Hickey

Oklahoma State head basketball coach Travis Ford has added another piece to the puzzle for the 2014-15 season. Anthony Hickey, who has started 85 games the last three seasons at LSU, is transferring to OSU. The 5-11 point guard reportedly enrolled for summer school and is already on campus, although he is still awaiting word from the NCAA on a waiver request to be eligible next season.

Hickey joins newcomers Jeff Newberry and Tyree Griffin as point guards who Ford is counting on to replace All-American Marcus Smart, who left OSU after his sophomore season to enter the NBA Draft.

Newberry, a 6-2 junior, is transferring from New Mexico Junior College, while the 5-10 Griffin is a freshman from Landry-Walker High School in New Orleans.

Hickey started 31 games last season for the LSU Tigers, averaging 8.4 points, 3.7 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals. His 216 steals are fifth most in LSU history.

HIckey's father told The Advocate of Baton Rouge that Anthony Hickey left LSU after Tigers head coach Johnny Jones told him that his scholarship was not being renewed for the 2014-15 season.

HIckey started 23 games as a sophomore, averaging a career-best 11.2 points. He was a starter in 31 of 33 games as a freshman, averaging 8.9 points and 3.8 assists.
