Colton Beebe Is One To Watch

This time of year there are always really good football players that for some reason fly a little under the radar screen. Colton Beebe at Kansas City Piper High School qualifies.

He has seen recruiting attention from neighboring Kansas, Kansas State, and Missouri as well as schools like Arkansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Northwestern, Oklahoma, and Tulsa. His scholarship offers have come from Air Force and Minnesota.

The 6-3, 240-pound Beebe is really good on both sides of the ball playing fullback and inside linebacker.

Last season he rushed for 349 yards and 10 touchdowns on 95 carries. He also caught 21 passes for 236 yards and three touchdowns. On defense, he had 66 unassisted tackles and 159 total tackles. In his prep career he has 903 rushing yards and 259 tackles.

He is athletic enough that he has also returned kickoffs. He runs a 4.79 and has a bench press max of 325 and a squat max of 470. His grade point average is an honors 4.13 and he has a 24 ACT. Pretty good numbers athletically and academically.

"I'm looking for a school that offers engineering," Beebe answered when asked what he was looking for in a school. "It's not a big deal but I don't want to go really far away. That really isn't a big deal. I want to find a coaching staff that fits me and I get along with. It doesn't matter whether I play offense or defense, I just want to play."

Beebe started practice this week with Piper High School and they open the season on Sept. 5. He comes from a family of athletes as his dad played football at Pitt State and his mom was a basketball player in community college before finishing her education at Iowa.

On tape, Beebe on defense is an intelligent player who plays physical and you can see how athletic he is. My guess is he ends up getting a lot more attention.
