McCleskey's Big Week Includes Friday's Win

We've mentioned our personal policy of not contacting recruiting prospects the night before a high school game, so when receiver Jalen McCleskey of Covington (St. Paul's), La., made a pledge on Thursday night to Oklahoma State we followed the commitment through Twitter. This afternoon (Sunday) we did catch up with the 5-10, 170-pound speedy threat.

The first question was not about his commitment but about Friday night and St. Paul's 26-25 last play of the game win over powerful New Orleans Edna Karr High School in one of the showcase games in the state of Louisiana.

"It was a big win for us," McCleskey said. "Yes sir, I thought I played really well."

The offensive effort was a balanced one for St. Paul. McCleskey had an important 31-yard reception that helped set up a score in the contest.

McCleskey, who is the son of former Tennessee standout and NFL veteran J.J. McCleskey, is making his own way through football and commented on his commitment to Oklahoma State.

"I really like the coaches and the offense," he said as he got a good look at Oklahoma State attending a camp in Stillwater this summer. "I think the offense is a good fit for me. The facilities are really nice. I liked everything that I saw when I was there."

McCleskey and his St. Paul teammates continue their good start to the season with a challenge this Friday at New Orleans Jesuit.
