Projecting OSU's Recruiting Class

Let's start with a few notes that we discovered Thursday. First, we saw with our own eyes Vincent Salako. I was doing my radio show at Buffalo Wild Wings and Oklahoma State recruiting coordinator Johnny Barr, player development specialist Beni Tonga, Rob Glass, Joel Tudman, Trumain Carroll and current defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah came in with Salako.

The starting offensive left tackle every game this season for the 6-6 UAB Blazers is looking for a new football home since UAB dropped football. Salako is every bit 6-6 and 320 pounds and a very good looking football player. He is huge, but very athletic looking and seemed to be having a good time.

We spoke again with McKinney (North), Texas safety Bryce Balous and found out that while he is making his official visit on Jan. 16, which will be the big visit weekend for the Cowboys with so many commitments and prospects making their official visits, that he is also coming to Stillwater with his mom Friday for an unofficial visit. The 5-11, 185-pound Balous de-committed from Kansas State to become Oklahoma State's 15th commitment (although that number may be misleading depending on junior college graduates).

The Cowboys were looking for their junior college offensive line commitments to be mid-year enrollees and that could be a problem for one. We will keep an eye out on Deya Mhiesen and his progress at Pierce College in California.

Really good news is that Bedlam may have made an impact or really did make an impact on former safety commitment Kenneth McGruder out of Alief (Taylor), Texas. McGruder de-committed a few weeks ago and re-opened his recruiting. Our Ahmard Vital, "Mr. Houston" when it comes to recruiting, has confirmed that McGruder is making an official visit to Oklahoma State this weekend, one that he requested.

Now the Cowboys stand with 14 or 15 commitments and here is a quick examination of where they are and where they likely want to go.

Quarterbacks
John Kolar, QB, 6-4, 188, Norman (Norman North), Okla. - Committed to Oklahoma State (12/12)
Todd Mays, QB/Ath., 6-0, 200, East Mississippi C.C./Olive Branch, Miss. - Committed to Oklahoma State (11/15)
The Cowboys have two commitments and both will be mid-year enrollees. They started out looking for two quarterbacks in the class and amended it to one, and then jumped back to two with the discovery and quick commitment of Todd Mays out of NJCAA national champion East Mississippi C.C.

Running Backs
Ronald Jones, RB, 6-0, 185, McKinney (North), Texas - Committed to Oklahoma State (1/16)
Kendall Bussey, RB, 5-10, 207, New Orleans (Newman), La. - De-committed from Nebraska, OSU (1/16)
Chris Warren III, RB, 6-2, 220, Rockwall, Texas - OSU, Bama, Aub, Bay, Clem, MsSt, OhSt, SMU, TCU, UT, A&M, Tech, Tulsa
One commitment and while some think it is shaky because Jones visited USC last weekend and will visit Notre Dame this weekend, he and his coach say he is solid to the Cowboys. He is getting a lot of Twitter traffic from USC and Notre Dame fans. Oklahoma State is looking for two backs and while they are a little different, either Bussey of Warren would do. Also, we heard Oklahoma State has shown some interest in Lawton running back/cornerback Darreyl Patterson.

Wide Receivers
Jalen McCleskey, WR, 5-10, 160, Covington (St.Paul's School), La. - Committed to Oklahoma State (1/16)
K.J. Hill, WR, 6-0, 185, North Little Rock, Ark. - Bama, AzSt, Ark, ArkSt, Aub, UF, UGA, Louis, LSU, Miss, UNC, ND, OhSt, OSU, Ore, PennSt, SC, Tenn, Tech
Tyron Johnson, WR, 6-2, 190, New Orleans (Warren Charter), La. - OSU (1/16), Bama, Aub, Cal, Clem, FSU, LSU, Miami, Mich, Miss, MissSt, MU, NC St, ND, OU, Ore, SDSU, USM, Tenn, UT, A&M, Tech, UCLA
Kalin Sadler, WR, 5-11, 185, Lawton, Okla. - Ill, KSU, LT, Minn, NM, UNT, OSU, OU, TSU
Kevin Thomas, WR, 6-1, 175, Desoto, Texas - Clem, Ind, KU, Neb, SDSU, Wis, BG, Md, OSU, SMU, TCU, Tech, Toledo, WF, WVU
Just one commitment for now but I think Oklahoma State is looking for more. They would love to get the top player in Louisiana in Johnson. Hill is probably a pipe dream, although his skills could go under used in Fayetteville. Expect something to develop here, it could be a sleeper like Choctaw quarterback/athlete Jonah Llanusa.

Tight End
Kyle Raunig, TE/DE, 6-4, 225, Overland Park (St. Thomas Aquinas), Kansas - KU, KSU, MU, OSU
Josh Moore, TE/DE, 6-5, 250, Olathe (North), Kansas - Ark, Aub, FSU, UGA, ISU, KU, KSU, Minn, MU, Neb, OhSt, OSU, OU, Ore, TCU, Tech
At this stage we're not expecting a tight end in the class. Oklahoma State will look for some premium walk-on candidates at the position.

Offensive Linemen
Johnny Wilson, OL, 6-3, 290, Midland (Midland Christian), Texas - Committed to Oklahoma State (1/16)
Joshua Jones, OL, 6-5 1/2, 280, Richmond (Bush), Texas - Committed to Oklahoma State (1/16)
Brandon Pertile, OT, 6-5, 300, Mesa C.C., Ariz./Georgia State/Clearwater (Countryside), Fla. - Committed to Oklahoma State (10/24)
Deya Mhiesen, OT, 6-8, 305, Woodland Hills (Pierce C.C.), Calf./Philadelphia (George Washington), Pa. - Committed to Oklahoma State (9/6) - Uncertain about graduation status
Vaimoe Sekona, OL, 6-3, 280, Encino (Crispi), Calf. - Committed to Oklahoma State (11/15)
Matt Kellerman, OL, 6-6, 300, Butler C.C./Prairie View, Kansas - OSU (12/12), Ill (11/14), IaSt (11/21), UL (11/28)
Martinas Rankin, OT, 6-5, 300, Mississippi Gulf Coast C.C./Perkinston, Miss - OSU, OU (9/12), UK, MsSt, UL, MU
Jalin Barnett, OL, 6-4, 290, Lawton, Okla. - Bama, Ark, Aub, Miss, OSU, OU, OrSt, Stan, Tenn, TSU, Tech, UCLA
Brandon Hodges, OL, 6-6, 320, East Mississippi C.C./Aberdeen, Miss. - OSU (11/15), UT, USM, ILL, USF, UL
There are currently five commitments, but Mhiesen's status could be in question. If Oklahoma State can pick up the transfer in UAB starter Vincent Salako then gain a commitment from Matt Kellerman and/or Jalin Barnett then the offensive line position would be complete and a potential recruiting masterpiece.

Defensive Tackles
Taaj Bakari, DT, 6-2, 287, Mansfield (Legacy), Texas - Committed to Oklahoma State
Motekiai Maihe, DT, 6-4, 300, Tyler J.C./Euless (Trinity), Texas - Committed to Oklahoma State (11/15)
Darrion Daniels, OL, 6-3 ½, 290, Dallas (Bishop Dunne), Texas - OSU (11/15), Bay, Iowa, Tech (11/1), OU (10/17), UL, LSU, Miami, Miss, Neb, ND, OhSt, SMU, TCU, Tenn, UT, Tech, Tulsa, USC, WaSt, Wis
Tim Settle, DT, 6-3, 310, Manassas (Stonewall Jackson), Va. - OSU (10/4), WVU, VaTech, OhSt, PSU, UCLA, USC, Bama, Aub, Tenn
The Cowboys have two committed in Bakari and Maihe. Both are really solid prospects with tremendous potential. They would love to add Daniels, who could also be a standout on the offensive line. He is a true player that could play both and settle where most needed. Settle has Oklahoma State in his final four but likely will be junior college bound and has shown a liking to NEO A&M in Oklahoma.

Defensive Ends
Tipa Galea’i, DE, 6-4, 210, Euless (Trinity), Texas - Bay, UH, UNT, OSU (1/16), TCU, Tech, Tulsa, Utah, UtSt, WaSt
Not a real need position, the Cowboys likely only take a defensive end in Galea'i, as they have his brother (Junior). They love how Tipa plays.

Linebackers
DeAndre McNeal, LB, 6-2, 210, Mesquite (Poteet), Texas - Bama, ArSt, Aub, Miami, OhSt, OSU, OU, TCU, Tenn, UT, A&M, Tech, UCLA, CSU, Iowa, KU, Miss, UNT, OrSt, Pur, SMU, Vandy
Christian Folau, LB, 6-1, 240, Salt Lake City (East), Utah - de-committed from Stanford and considering OSU (11/15), Ill, Wash, Wis
Tramayne Wauahdooah, LB/Star, 6-1, 190, Anadarko, Okla. - OSU (1/16), Tulsa, OU, Tech
Porter Gustin, LB, 6-5, 235, Salem (Salem Hills), Utah - AzSt, Boise, Cal, FSU, Hawaii, Ill, Louis, Neb, UNC, ND, OhSt, OSU, Ore, OreSt, Pur, Stan, UCLA, UNLV, USC, Utah, UtSt, Vandy, Wash, WashSt, Wis, Wyo
Kevin Henry, LB/Star, 6-1, 200, Baton Rouge (Central), La. - Committed to Oklahoma State (1/16) after de-committing from LSU
I think Oklahoma State would like to get another linebacker or two. But they do return a number of guys and have a good solid young foundation to the position and have a transfer from Cal in Chad Whitener that will help for the future. Folau may be the best possibility and he is going to go on religious mission right out of high school, but that won't be a problem. He'll be a good hand in two years as well.

Cornerbacks
Kris Boyd, CB, 6-1, 185, Gilmer, Texas - OSU, LSU, A&M, UT, Tech, Bay, Cal, FSU, Bama, Ark, MU, Neb, OU, ND
Holton Hill, CB, 6-2, 175, Houston (Lamar), Texas
Justin Martin, CB, 6-2, 180, NEO A&M J.C., Okla./Nashville (Owen), Tenn. - OSU, LSU, UGA, Tenn, Miss, Aub, OU, Neb
Kendell Sheffield, CB, 5-11, 180, Missouri City (Marshall), Texas
No corner commits so far, and Martin is looking more and more like he will be at LSU or Tennessee.

Safeties
Za'Carrius Green, LB/SS, 5-11, 190, Duncanville, Texas - Committed to Oklahoma State (11/15)
Jordan Burton, S/LB, 6-1, 210, Kilgore J.C./Longview, Texas - Committed to Oklahoma State (12/12)
Bryce Balous, S, 5-11, 185, McKinney (North), Texas - Committed to Oklahoma State (1/16) after de-committing from Kansas State
James Locke, S, 6-0, 180, Beaumont (Central), Texas - OSU (1/16)
Kenneth McGruder, S, 6-1, 190, Alief (Taylor), Texas - Tech, OSU (de-commitment but visiting 12/12)
Four safety commits and like Henry, another of these guys could end up at the star linebacker position. Look for McGruder to be a good possibility of coming back on board in the class after his weekend visit.
