That is similar to how he gives his teams back-to-back days off (Sunday and Monday) when they break fall camp so he doesn't have the team practicing on the first day of classes as that is always a bad practice because of all the distractions. He lets the team settle back into school and practice on Tuesday.
The schedule for this week will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. With all eight full-pad practices remaining and 12 practices left to go overall, there will be some full contact work this week.
Really, the first week of practice was a good time for the players to re-acquaint with the offense and defense as far as schemes and concepts. It looked smooth from our vantage point.
It was also a good time to have the players and new coaches get familiar with each other and tuned in to how to best practice. I loved what I saw out of Greg Adkins with the offensive line. I liked the way Marcus Arroyo maxed out the reps for the running backs. I did not see as much of Jason McEndoo with the tight ends and Dan "Hammer" Hammerschmidt with the safeties.
Getting better, getting smoother and getting physical will be on the check list for this week. Position battles should heat up too with running back, offensive line, defensive tackle, and all back-up positions on defense and safety being the ones that may deserve the most intent watching.
I'm sure Gundy and his staff are eager to see all the smiling faces back from spring break. Coaches and players alike can question quarterback Mason Rudolph on which quarterback ruled the beach from that picture with the OU quarterbacks that he was seen in on social networking.
