Mid-Summer Preview: Iowa State

Most members of the media that cover the Big 12 Conference are fans of Paul Rhoads. The Iowa State head coach is a great interview as he is honest and dramatic. Rhoads rarely does anything mundane or boring. He carries a bright light of passion with him most of the time. You also have to give him credit as he is not an excuse maker.

Last season the Cyclones had a rash of injuries and had some seemingly bad luck as calls, you have to admit some strange calls, went against Iowa State. So much so that the athletic director Jamie Pollard did step in front of a microphone and embarrassed himself by whining after a loss at Oklahoma State last season.

Iowa State could be in for another tough season, but the Cyclones will have a chance to be competitive. They have three potential quarterbacks with loads of playing experience, but it seems really strong that Sam B. Richardson will be back at the controls.

I'm betting on Mike Warren, the former Lawton standout, to come on at running back, and if Quinton Bundrage is back and good to performe and add in Allen Lazard and the Cyclones could be pretty tought. Another Oklahoma product in Daniel Burton returns at right guard and could be a leader on a solid offensive line.

Defense is where the heavy rebuilding will happen with only one returning starter in the front seven on the defense. Honestly, you have to hope the paint will dry and mean something to a defense that always seems skeptical.
