Starkel Does Well Coming Off Bench

Stanford commitment K.J. Costello played the majority of the snaps at quarterback for Hypercool in the televised 7-on-7 matchup with Lunarbeast in the ESPNU coverage of Nike's The Opening and the Elite 11 on Thursday night. But Oklahoma State commitment Nick Starkel out of Liberty Christian in Argyle, Texas was seen throughout helping out with charting and snapping before coming in as a reserve.

Starkel has had a really good week, according to Elite 11 head coach Trent Dilfer and ESPN recruiting reporter Tom Luginbill.

"Oklahoma State took him and that is a school that knows what they are doing in player evaluation," Luginbill said in talking about Starkel and how well he was doing. "If they are taking a guy (Starkel) then they probably know what they are doing."

"Starkel came in prepared," Dilfer explained. "He spent the last three weeks studying and he was ready and he prepares and throws like a pro. I think he is a pro prospect if he can add to his frame. He is a little slight right now, but in a major college weight room and with a major college training table then he could be a quarterback that weighs 220-225 pounds. His growth plates are still open. He throws it like a pro."

Starkel came in and completed all eight of his passes. He went eight-for-eight and Hypercool finished the 60-yard drive with a touchdown. Here is exactly how Starkel's sequence went:
1 & 20 from -40 Starkel hits RB in the right flat for a 5-yard gain.
2 & 15 from -45 Starkel hits inside receiver on seam route for 15-yards FD.
1 & 20 from +40 Starkel hits inside receiver on left side on an out for 10 yards.
1 & 20 from +40 Starkel hits Elijah Stove (WR) on slant and go (sluggo) for 35 yards.
1 & G from +10 Starkel eats football, no receivers open, loss of down & 5-yard penalty.
2 & G from +15 Starkel hits inside receiver on shallow route for 5 yards.
3 & G from +10 Starkel hits Chase Claypool (WR) on corner fade. Great catch on a well thrown ball for touchdown.
PAT Starkel hits Javon McKinney on a slant from the inside receiver position on the right side.

Hypercool got the ball back with less than a minute to go and Starkel handed off to Elijah Holyfield to end the game.

It was an excellent outing that should help Team Hypercool in the seedings for Friday's tournament and should help Starkel as he continues to strive to make Elite 11.
