Oklahoma State signee Vaimoe Sekona out of Crespi High School in Encino, Calif., was not able to make the initial NCAA qualifying numbers and is expected to be at Tyler Community College in Tyler, Texas this fall.
The 6-4, 285-pound Sekona was a standout on both sides of the football at defensive and offensive tackle in high school. He was slated to play offense at Oklahoma State, but may wind up playing defense or some defense at Tyler for the Apaches. Tyler did a good job of preparing current Oklahoma State defensive tackle Motekiai Maile to move on to Division I.
Last season as a senior, Sekona had 22 tackles and one sack with an interception returned for a touchdown on defense. He was named to the first-team California Interscholastic Federation All-State team on offense and the Los Angeles Daily News All-Area team on defense.
Sekona was also recruited by Hawaii, Miami, Fla., Oregon State, Texas Tech, UCLA, USC, Washington State, and San Diego State.
