DeSoto's A.J. Green Commits To Cowboys

Standout cornerback commits to Cowboys

The last time we talked with DeSoto, Texas cornerback prospect A.J. Green he was taking pictures at media day with his DeSoto Eagles teammates and telling us, "I'm really leaning on Oklahoma State and that is where I think I will spend the next four years playing football and getting my education."

However, he followed that with the statement that he was 90 percent with Oklahoma State but not absolutely sure.

He said he is sure now after releasing this message on his Twitter account. "Blessed to say I Have officially committed to Oklahoma State University," Green posted on Twitter.

He then called Go Pokes. "I mean it was a long process and before when we talked (photo day at DeSoto) I was still trying to make sure I made the right decision," Green said over the phone. "Then I talked the decision over with my family. I made it a family decision and we all agreed that Oklahoma State was the best place for me."

The 6-1, 170-pound Green, who had 17 offers in all from the likes of Arizona State, Colorado, Houston, Louisville, Missouri, OU, SMU, Texas Tech, Utah, and most recently Wisconsin, said it was the coaches that made a big difference in his decision.

"The coaches and how they keep everything real," Green answered when asked what he liked best about Oklahoma State. "In recruiting they weren't pressuring but they were cool. Then when I was up there I liked the way the coaches and the players have it as a real family attitude. I like the way they play and the way they are together as a team."

Green said he is bonding really well with his DeSoto teammates as they hang out so much of the time including today, the first day back to school. He added that DeSoto scrimmaged Mesquite Horn last week and he thought he played well.

Last season Green had 28 tackles and three interceptions at corner. Having personally watched Green at the Nike The Opening Regional in Arlington this spring he has all the raw skills with speed, hip flexibility and turn, good back pedal, and has really strong cover skills. Watching on tape he is solid in his technique and his athletic ability matches up with just about any type of receiver.

"We open with Arlington Martin this Saturday at 4 p.m." Green said with excitement.

DeSoto has an adventuresome schedule with IMG Academy from Florida on Sept. 5, and then a date in Belton, Texas against Cibolo Steele later in September.

Green is the 15th commitment for Oklahoma State and he is the eighth commitment on the defensive side of the ball. He is the third cornerback commitment.
