Ryan Simmons Out For Season With Knee Injury

Oklahoma State starting middle linebacker will need season-ending surgery after tearing his MCL and PCL.

Oklahoma State middle linebacker and three-year starter Ryan Simmons announced that he will miss the remainder of his senior season on Twitter Tuesday evening.

Simmons was injured on the first touchdown that Kansas State scored on Saturday as he was hit low by a Wildcat blocker. Then as he went down, he had another player fall on top of his knee while it was in an awkward position. Simmons came out and had a brace put on the knee and stayed on the sidelines but an exam after the game and then MRI later revealed the damage the Simmons tweeted about.

"Family, Friends, & Fans... I recently tore my MCL and PCL which will require surgery and end my ...  (From there the message continued on Instagram.) college football career. But God has a plan and I know without a doubt he will take care of me and my future. I'm so thankful for all the opportunities I've been aviled to while playing this game I love at this special University. Thank you for your support along the way. Prayers are more then welcomed on this road to recovery. With that said. We have more games to win."

Simmons is a leader and a real true asset on and off the field to the Oklahoma State program. The product of Cibolo Steele High School outside of San Antonio, Texas and a state champion in high school, he did start games as early as his freshman season and was tied with defensive end Jimmy Bean for the most consecutive starts on the team with 31 in a row.

He will finish his career with 203 total tackles. He had 161 unassisted, 42 assisted, and the 203 total. He also had 26.0 tackles for losses, 3.5 sacks, one interception, one fumble caused, and one fumble recovered.

This season Simmons had 14 total tackles and nine unassisted playing in all five games but just a couple of plays against UTSA and Kansas State.

Simmons will be replaced in the starting lineup by former walk-on and Cal transfer Chad Whitener, who has 20 tackles, 14 unassisted tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, and 2.0 sacks. Whitener is 6-1, 245 pounds, and a redshirt sophomore.
