Oklahoma State falls to number 11 in the College Football Playoff poll

Oklahoma State is number 11 in the College Football Playoff rankings after the Cowboys suffered their first loss of the season this past weekend.

The College Football Playoff committee continues to baffle America and this time they did it with Oklahoma State's archrival and opponent for this week in Oklahoma. However, if the Cowboys gather themselves and recover from the loss to Baylor last week with a victory over Oklahoma, it could benefit the Pokes in the playoff rankings.

The CFP panel moved Oklahoma up from seventh all the way into the final four on the strength of a 30-29 win over a TCU team that slid in the CFP Top 25 from 18th to 19th despite being a missed two-point conversion away from upsetting OU in Norman.

Oklahoma State, after losing to 10th-ranked Baylor, fell to 11th in the poll behind two of the two-loss teams in Stanford (9th) and Michigan (10th). Honestly, Oklahoma State would have been fine being ranked anywhere from ninth to 11th.

The fact that this week's opponent in Oklahoma is third gives the Cowboys plenty of license to move up and even a chance at making the four-team playoff provided they get some help. It is still somewhat amazing that Oklahoma moved up as much as they did.

"It was more about Oklahoma's body of work and what they did than it was the Notre Dame result with Boston College, although that win did not do much for Notre Dame," CFP Committee chairman and Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long said after the rankings were announced.

Long would not go into details but said a lot of time in discussion and several votes were taken based on the teams that were third through seventh. With conference championship games on the last Saturday before the final rankings and so many contentious rivalry games this week Oklahoma State could beat a third-ranked OU team and then sit back and see what happens.

Below is the top 15 as announced by the CFP committee:
