Klein (Oak), Texas offensive tackle Ryan McCollum was at the Bedlam game on Saturday with his entire family and he said he had a good time with a couple of exceptions. The game didn't turn out the way he wanted it to and the weather was an eye opener.
"It was cold and I would have preferred to watch the game inside," McCollum said of the Saturday night cold and mist in Boone Pickens Stadium. "I enjoyed the trip but I'm used to Houston and highs of 92 degrees, and like today it was a low in the 60s but I wore shorts today because I was used to the cold from Saturday."
The 6-5, 265-pound McCollum told me that he and his Klein Oak teammates advanced into the playoffs but lost in the first round, still a good season and McCollum looked really good on video. You can tell he has improved in technique and was stronger and more dominant than in his junior season. He has a long frame and you can tell will accommodate over 300 pounds.
"I didn't get to meet the new offensive line commit, Tyler Brown. We never saw him," McCollum added. "I was hanging out with Nick Starkel and a wide receiver, Zach Farrar (from Southlake Carroll) and Tramonda Moore (from Oklahoma City John Marshall). I also met the new safeties, the transfer from Auburn (Derrick Moncreif) and the junior college transfer (Malik Kearse)."
McCollum said he is now working out already lifting and in an offseason program and he mentioned that his official visit will be on the huge visit weekend for the Cowboys on Jan. 15-17.
