Oklahoma State falls to 17th in College Football Playoff rankings

Oklahoma State falls to 17th in this week's College Football Playoff rankings

The Oklahoma State football team maintained a spot in the latest College Football Playoff poll, coming in at No. 17 in Tuesday’s rankings. The Cowboys will be going bowling and three bowls are in play, including the Sugar Bowl.

Since debuting at No. 14 in this season’s first set of College Football Playoff rankings on Nov. 3, the Cowboys have been ranked in the top 20 of each weekly poll. OSU reached a program-high when it was slotted at No. 6 on Nov. 17 before falling to Baylor and Oklahoma over the last two weeks.

Oklahoma State remained in the top 15 in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls released earlier this week, which slotted the Cowboys at No. 14. In the FWAA-NFF Super 16, OSU was also selected as the nation’s No. 14 team.

A trio of Big 12 squads accompanies Oklahoma State in this week’s College Football Playoff rankings, including Oklahoma (No. 3), TCU (No. 11) and Baylor (No. 12).

The College Football Playoff selection committee will release its final rankings of the season on Sunday, along with bowl assignments for the Cowboys and the rest of the country.

That is also when the bowls will be announced from the New Year's Day six to all of the collective bowls. For Oklahoma State to be in a New Year's Day Bowl, Baylor would need to be upset on Saturday by Texas. The more likely bowl scenario would have the Valero Alamo Bowl in San Antonio (Jan. 2) and the Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando, Fla. (Dec. 29) choosing between the Cowboys and TCU.
