Amen Ogbongbemiga Plays For Canada In Texas

Oklahoma State commit Amen Ogbongbemiga will be playing Sunday for the Canadian team against the under-19 USA Football team in the annual International Bowl at AT&T Cowboys Stadium.

Amen Ogbongbemiga was baffled by the question. "Really, who was that?" asked the Houston-area native and Calgary (Notre Dame Academy), Alberta, Canada linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga when asked which current Oklahoma State player played in the annual International Bowl a year ago.

The 6-1, 210-pound hitter is in Arlington, Texas practicing with the Canadian team that on Sunday will play the under-19 USA Football team in the annual International Bowl. The two teams will play at 3 p.m. Sunday in AT&T Cowboys Stadium. Last year it was Midland (Midland Christian), Texas offensive guard Johnny Wilson playing for the United States and Team USA.

Wilson and Ogbongbemiga will be able to compare notes.

"I knew about this game for a while, but I just decided a few days ago to make the decision to play in the game," Ogbongbemiga said. "We've been in Arlington a day or so and we've practiced twice. We'll play at 3 p.m. on Sunday. They are playing me at the Will (weak-side linebacker). I don't know what my game jersey number is yet, but if you will remind me on Friday or Saturday then I will text you."

Told that the game is being streamed live on ESPN3 and available for Oklahoma State fans to watch and follow Ogbongbemiga, he was excited.

A dual citizen, Ogbongbemiga finds himself representing his current country, playing in his native state. He is Nigerian heritage, but grew up in Texas and will be back living in the U.S. and playing his college football at Oklahoma State.

He is a cousin of Oklahoma State All-American defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah. He presents himself as a similar character make-up to his cousin and that would be outstanding. Consider this a little bit of a homecoming on signing day eve, except Amen admitted that he hasn't had a chance to get any Texas food like barbeque, but he will.

The owner of back-to-back seasons of over 100 total tackles also will get a heaping helping of football back in the states this coming weekend. You, as fans, will have a chance to get an early preview of what Ogbongbemiga will bring from Canada.
