One of the younger quarterbacks at Nike’s The Opening Regional was Casey Thompson of Southmoore High School in Oklahoma.
A lot of Oklahoma State fans are surely thinking that there is no way that the son of former Sooners quarterback Charles Thompson and the brother of former OU and Utah quarterback Kendal Thompson would wind up at Oklahoma State. But Thompson told me at Coppell High School this past weekend that his feelings after a recent unofficial visit to Stillwater were sincere. He is looking strongly at OSU. He is also in Miami, Florida this week to look at the Hurricane and new coach Mark Richt.
Meanwhile, this trip to Coppell for The Opening was a good experience for Thompson. He said he learned a lot and he is prepared to come back next year and make a strong run to get to Oregon and The Opening at the Nike headquarters.
There is no doubt he is talented enough. His numbers last season as a sophomore were outstanding with him completing 167 of 271 passes for 2,670 yards with an amazing 32 touchdowns and just 4 interceptions. He also rushed 136 times for 1,011 yards and another 20 touchdowns. Already in his career he has over 5,300 yards in total offense and 67 total touchdowns.
Thompson already has scholarship offers from the likes of Oklahoma State, Arkansas State, Miami, Oregon State, and SMU.
