He has been playing a "wildcat" quarterback and running back at Idabel (Okla.) High School and punching holes in opposing defenses, but Tyriq French thinks that Division I college coaches, and he would desperately like to stay in Oklahoma, will think he might be pretty good at stopping opposing ball carriers.
French worked out with the defensive backs at the Mary Hardin-Baylor satellite mega camp in Tyler, Texas on Saturday and he looked pretty good.
French is athletic enough to play corner but also could be a safety. The big question is how physical will he be and based on his running style on offense and his play in basketball he is not shy about using his 6-1 1/2, 194-pound frame. He has a 4.45 forty, 36-inch vertical, and lists a 240-pound bench press max and 320-pound squat max.
French is a good looking athlete who drew lots of attention at the camp and may soon see his recruiting kick it up a notch or two or three.
